Cruising Tip: Are you watching cruise line offers … Even when you’re not in the market to buy a cruise ?

I'll be sailing on the new NCL Escape next week ... No Blog post.  See you Thanksgiving week !

The best time to catch a great cruise offer is when … You’re not even in the market to buy !

Isn’t that how everything works ?
The car you wanted, was on sale “last week” !
The sheets you wanted for your bed, were on sale “last week”.
But you weren’t watching the sales last week !

If you’re not paying attention to the offers coming through your email, you can miss that big savings or opportunity !  It’s how many folks save on their cruises and sail more often than others !

Unless you are buying last minute, usually only a deposit is needed to secure your rate.  No one knows what they’ll be doing next year or even in two years (?).  Whether they can get time off work or find that babysitter (?).

The time to buy is when you least expect it !
Watch those specials !
You deserve to GET AWAY !

Cruising Tip: Noticed other cruisers are receiving such great “cruise deals”, and not you. Could it be you’re choosing the wrong cruise line !

So many folks automatically assume, that Carnival has the lower rates, and stop there.  If you are signed up to receive Carnival specials, have you noticed, actually not much is offered ?

With Carnival, you may see …
1.       Free upgrades.  Did you know ?  This is most often offered only on their higher prices.  Folks think they are getting the better deal, but maybe not !
2.       Reduced deposit.  Did you know ?  Again, this often on higher pricing.
3.       Onboard credit.  You don’t see this often !
4.       Military Rates.  Did you know ?  This is not available every date.  And military rates don’t often beat other offers !
5.       Past Guest Rates.  Did you know ? This is not on every date.  And doesn’t often out beat other offers.

The way to save with Carnival is their “Early Saver Rates”.  Book 5 months or more from sailing.  Other rates, like Military, Senior, Resident Rates, or even Past Guest Rates, are for the most times, not the lower rates.  Folks calling Carnival direct, and asking for these rates, are most often paying a higher rate.

Are you signed up to receive offers from other cruise lines ? (are you signed up for our e-Savers to see my staff's weekly cruise line Exclusives ?  www.SignUp4CruiseDeals.com)
Their added savings amenities, can often outbeat Carnivals pricing.
Free gratuities … Free drinks … Free onboard credit … and more.

Choosing your cruise, shouldn’t be all about price.  Maybe for a little more money, or taking advantages of their amenities, you may receive a better value.

Check out this savings, my client received yesterday !
10 night on Princess … Balcony started at $999pp.
My customer is past guest of Princess.
She moved up to a BE-Balcony, only $ 959pp.
She received $150 pp onboard credit from Princess.
And we had another $ 42.50pp onboard credit for her.
That’s $385 in onboard credit for her cabin.
Go here for itinerary:

We have 1500+ dates, on “other cruise lines” to save cruisers money !
Of course, we sell out of these quick … Yet, we may be able to get you the same amenities … Must call !

Could it be time to venture with other cruise lines ?

Cruising Tip: Discover a favorite dish, at dinner, while onboard your cruise ? Wishing to repeat that dish another night ?

Ever been on a cruise and discovered a dish you truly loved at dinner ?  And wish you could have that another night too ?  Maybe you can.  Ask !

Years back, I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise, and they ran out of our table having a 2nd lobster that night.  We asked if we could have another night … Sure enough, we received the next night.

My cruise last week was onboard Carnival.  I fell in love with the Bread Budding.  It was so buttery …I love butter !  I asked my waiter if I could have again the next night.  Sure enough, it was delivered the next night !  And to beat it all, I was sitting at a different table/different waiter (near by) and my waiter set this up for me.

On Princess … Folks love the soufflés … you must order these in advance, to have multiple times !

ENJOY !

Trip Cancellation Insurance Tip. The “power” of pre-existing medical coverage.

FYI ... No article Wednesday, October 28 ... I'm Bermuda Bound, with 80 others, on Carnival's Splendor only 7 night cruise, out of Norfolk, in 2015 !  You should have joined us !

------------------------------------------------------

Reminder, Trip Cancellations Insurance are NOT equal !  I can't say this enough !

Most cruise lines insurance covers, death and sickness, to get your money back, with no refund nor compensation, for pre-existing medical situations.  Others cover 75% towards a future cruise, to cancel for any reason.  So if the “Doctor” determines the reason for cancelling is pre-existing medical, any chance at refund is “null”.

Unfortunately, due to the high cost, for an agency to make available, a higher value Trip Cancellation Insurance coverage (from a 3rd party vendor), such as pre-existing coverage, most Travel Agencies, just offer what’s available through the cruise lines.  Yet some larger National Agencies, may have available, for their clients, a pre-existing waiver, included with their Trip Cancellation Insurance, and without a higher cost to the cruiser.  So yes, "where you buy your cruise", can determine for you, the available coverage for purchase.

“In the context of healthcare in the United States, a pre-existing condition is a medical condition that started before a person's health insurance went into effect”.

Some folks are aware they have a pre-existing medical condition, yet unaware than many Trip Cancellation Insurance do not cover !  Others are unaware, that the simplicity of just “changing one’s medication”, can place folks in a pre-existing medical status.

Just in the past 2 months, my blood thinner medication has been changed 3 times by the doctor and my blood pressure medication type, was changed once.  This can subject my chance of a vacation refund, if I were to need to cancel my vacation.

“There’s power in pre-existing medical coverage waiver”!

Fortunately, our company offers a pre-existing medical coverage waiver, as long as I buy this Trip Cancellation coverage “at time of deposit”.  As long as I’m ok to travel, at time of purchasing my vacation/insurance, this waiver allows me to not worry over my pre-existing medical or medication changes.

To top that … Now that I have purchased this coverage with my deposit … It also covers “any new medical issues”, that could develop, that I’m yet aware of.  Such as future medication changes or new health issues.  I’m covered, “up till time of vacation” !

With this pre-existing waiver coverage already purchased at time of deposit, it’s one less thing for me to worry over, till time of vacation.  Especially if my medical condition were to take a change, in not allowing me to travel.

I know folks, who buy Trip Cancellation Insurance, as their hopes of “warding off” unforeseen situations and the insurance never used.  And others who bought, only cause they thought that was the thing to do, and it was a life-saver for the vacation dollars.

Reminder … Select Trip Cancellation Insurances also cover “while you’re on vacation”.  Again, whether you are covered, will be determined (by the doctor only), if it was a pre-existing condition and if you have that coverage or not !  So insurance is not just about “canceling before you go” … It’s also about needed coverage “while you’re gone”.

Isn’t it TIME to take stock/value in which Trip Cancellation Insurance you “think you’re buying” and to buy the available coverage ?  Just because you do not have a pre-existing medical condition today, doesn’t mean one won’t develop tomorrow !  Yes, it’s as simple as “medication” changes.

How might Travel Trip Cancellation Insurance (TCI) cover hurricanes ? And how might it not.

Reminder, not all Travel Trip Cancellations Insurances are treated equal … Not at all !  And most folks do NOT realize this !

Some TCI cover “weather” to get you to the destination.  Such as, if you were about to embark for a cruise vacation … And weather in your home city or embarkation port (whether driving or flying), had weather issues, causing you to miss the ship.  Then the airlines will work with you, to get you to a port for you cruise, and you can turn in the cost with your insurance.  There’s more to this, but this is the generalities.

Another TCI might cover “weather if you never get to go”.  Such as for a cruise, if your home town never allows you to fly or drive out, to get to port, due to weather.  If the port of embarkation, never allows you to arrive, due to weather, then this is often handled differently.   The cruise line may (?) offer compensation, if the ship can never come into port, to pick you up.  Again, this comes under “what if” and can often not be answered till something, such as this, took place.

Either way, this second insurance is actually better to have, because it covers more than just weather  delays … It covers weather if you never get to go.  Which is also a better insurance, if you are just flying to an island, and a hurricane caused folks to miss their entire vacation.

However, neither of these insurances allow you to choose to cancel, out of fear of a hurricane coming.  If the ship or flight is still a-go or the island has been cleared for enter, you must plan to show up.  If you don’t, the two insurances above, will not cover.

You need a “cancel for any reason” type TCI to just decide you don’t to go … Whether it’s your fear of a possible hurricane or for what ever reason you decide not to go.  Only a few cruise lines and cruise specialist/travel agencies offer this type of insurance (most travel agencies only have access to cruise line/tour operator insurance and do not have available, their own 3rd party insurance).  However, many Tour Operators, such as FunJet Vacations and River Cruises, do offer this.  But again, buying TCI “from the vendor, whether cruise line, tour operator, or River Cruise, means that you are not covered with “bankruptcy of a carrier”.  It can be a toss-up to which TCI you may actually need to purchase).

My first reminder … Buy Trip Cancellation Insurance with every vacation.  #2, KNOW YOUR INSURANCES  … What it covers and what it doesn’t !

WAIKIKI BEACH MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA
Steps away from world-famous Waikikī Beach (My insight: Hotel block off the beach - Beach front is more expensive), the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa enchants guests with more than five acres of tropical beauty. Here, the Marriott tradition blends with Hawaii’s warm Aloha Spirit to create a welcoming atmosphere. A luxurious resort by any standard, it offers two beautiful outdoor pools, a full spa and a full spectrum of water sports. And for your convenience, Norwegian Cruise Line can assist you with pre- boarding arrangements, island adventures, transfers and more.  (My insight:  NCL offers "city view" cost and "ocean view" cost only.  Current extra cost for "ocean view" - $ 90pp.  This is not "deluxe oceanview", there's a difference !  And beds on request only, based on availability at time of check-in - 2 Queens or 1 King).

Tour Activities DAY BY DAY

DAY 1 (Wednesday) ARRIVAL DAY
Aloha! After a traditional Hawaiian flower lei greeting at your gate, you’ll be transferred to the luxurious Waikīkī Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. From there you’re free to explore the “Playground of the Pacific,” at your leisure.

You’ll also see famous surf spots, including Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach and Ehukai Beach (Banzai Pipeline) — during winter, these spots are known for monstrous waves reaching 20 to 40 feet.

Estimate arrival, 12:15pm.  Enjoy the afternoon at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and experience authentic island villages showcasing the traditional lifestyles of some of Hawaii’s original descendants from Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Tahiti. Go native with a variety of interactive experiences from island games and tantalizing dances to a private canoe tour, where you’ll see a variety of Polynesian dances during the festive canoe pageant.  (My suggestion:  Pay to have a guide, est $10 – goes towards paying the guides college & guides you quicker through the villages and has you where you need to be, by certain times).  Estimate return to hotel, 5:15pm.
(My suggestion:  Plan to extend your stay at the Cultural Center, this day.  Once their “or prior”, upgrade your package to include dinner – several choices, and stay for the 2 hour “Breath of Life Evening Show” .  And then buy transfers “back to Honolulu” – Yes, they are round trip, but it’s the only way you can buy through the Cultural Center.  Est $72pp + tax unless you buy are larger package. This hotel is on the list for drop offs).

DAY 3 (Friday) PEARL HARBOR & DOWNTOWN TOUR
Estimate hotel departure, 7:30am.  Estimate time, 8am, Immerse yourself in history. As you travel from Waikiki toward Pearl Harbor, you will visit the Punchbowl Crater, home of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and enjoy breathtaking city and ocean views. Traveling through downtown, you’ll see the state capitol building, the governor’s mansion, Iolani Palace (the only royal palace in the United States) and the imposing King Kamehameha statue.

From there, you will visit Pearl Harbor, estimate arrival, 9am, and enjoy observations from an expert tour guide. First, you’ll take a boat shuttle to the USS Arizona Memorial, a floating memorial built over the sunken hull of the Battleship USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the ship’s crew. You’ll then tour the USS Bowfin, the submarine known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger,” and get a close look at its torpedo room, engine room and sleeping quarters. Then you’ll have the chance to explore the decks of the 60,000-ton battleship USS Missouri. Don’t miss the Surrender Deck on “Mighty Mo,” where General MacArthur accepted the unconditional Japanese surrender that ended World War II. Your afternoon continues at the Pacific Aviation Museum, within former WWII airplane hangars on Pearl Harbor’s Ford Island. Experience exhibits showcasing the stories behind WWII fighter planes and bombers. Plus see planes like an authentic Japanese Zero as well as a B-25B bomber, the planes used in 1942 during the Tokyo Raid. (Vivian’s Tip:  Prepare yourself for the normal lines, you will experience at Pearl Harbor.  Suggestion, take turns going to the gift shop.  Check out their “flown flags & date flown” – May folks want to come home with this souvenir; and those who don’t, often wish they had). Cruise Tip: How many people are YOU choosing to put in your cabin ?

CRUISE TIP:  When you elect to put 3, 4, or 5 people in your cabin (cruise).  These extra persons will be on a bunk or a rollaway or a sofa bed.  You may soon discover, the length of the bed is not long enough, nor as comfortable, or a hassle in climbing up to or the added space it takes up in your room.  Once there (discovered), this is beyond anyone’s control, that it now doesn’t suit your needs or personal expectations.

SUGGESTION: Since you do not know these answers in advance, truly consider buying that extra room. Or know in your mind, in advance, that there “may be” some un-pleasantries, in choosing to add additional persons to your room, outside of 2.  It's understandable, that it may be a matter of extra cost for the room.  This is the choice you have to personally make, "for yourself" ... Money ... Comfort ... Expectations ?

REMINDER:  If you buy a cabin with no cabin number (TBA-To be announced), there is no promise to the type of bedding.  A sofa bed is considered a bed.  So is a rollaway.  Your room for 3 or 4, could be a bunk bed and rollaway for the 3rd & 4th in the room.  Often, it cost "more money" to receive a cabin # at time of booking.  Again, it's YOUR choice, in opting to pay, any additional necessary money, to meet your true expectations.

Adventures By Disney. Why ?

If you love Walt Disney World, here’s why you’ll want to consider Adventures By Disney, for your next family vacation ? The adventure is more than just for kids !

Insight from Guru Travel, About Travel, Wiki and Adventures By Disney.

Many folks visit Walt Disney World, every year, and are happy with their vacation !  However, there are many families, maybe like yourself, who would love to experience more than just one culture or the same place over and over.  Yet only want to try such an adventure, if they know they will get, the same great service they have come to experience with the Disney name !
There are many advantages in choosing to travel with Adventures By Disney (ABD).  To start, they’ve done most of the needed planning for you.  Taking the stress away from the countless hours it may take you, in planning out the same tour/adventure !  AND … It’s a GUIDED TOUR !
Adventures By Disney provides group guided family vacations to various domestic and international destinations. It is jointly managed between Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Walt Disney Travel Company … Units of The Walt Disney Company.
On an ABD vacation, guests are taken on expeditions that often feature activities designed for families and kids (or ’Junior Adventurers’).  Two Disney-trained Adventure Guides (Cast Members) look after a group of no more than 44 guests on an Adventure, and are described as being ’part concierge, guide and storyteller’.
When you travel to worldwide destinations on an Adventures By Disney vacation you do much more than sightsee. You experience firsthand the people and cultures of the places you visit—and you do so with the service, VIP experiences and unique local opportunities you can only expect from Disney.
Adventures By Disney Audience:
As you might expect, the Adventures by Disney tours are ideally suited for families with children. Disney requires that participants be at least four years old, but suggests that six years old is a more appropriate minimum age. The tours include activities specifically for children. But, adults without children would enjoy the itineraries as well.
Popularity of Adventures by Disney:
ABD began in 2005.  Though many folks have yet to hear of Adventures By Disney, let alone experience one of its adventures, the concept of ABD took off  immediately with its many Disney followers.  Many repeat guest, trying out new adventures !   ABD is not for the “last minute planner”.  It’s popularity has many itineraries sold out, a year in advance !
You’ll want to include the back of your Travel Professional.  Like any cruise or land tour package you’re considering, you want someone who knows the “ins & outs” of your vacation, along with their INSIDE connection with your Tour Operator, such as ABD.

In 2015, Adventures by Disney expanded its destinations to span six continents … Includes U.S. (Southwest, D.C. area, Wyoming, and California), Europe (London and Paris, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Germany), and other locations (China, Peru, and Australia).  Traveling to more than 25 destinations throughout Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, Europe, and North America.
River cruises:  In April of 2015, offered an ADB river cruise vacation.  AmaWaterways was the host, while ADB guided and did the storytelling.  See Danube River for 2016 !

Of Interest to Theme Park Fans:
Curiously, the Adventures by Disney Paris trip does not include a visit to Disneyland Paris. And there are no Florida or Japan itineraries, so there are no opportunities to go to the Disney parks in those locations.
The China trip does include a stop at Hong Kong Disneyland, however. And the Hollywood and Disney Resort itinerary is a park enthusiast’s fantasy vacation. It includes backstage tours of Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure. And, in an Adventures by Disney exclusive, guests can tour the hallowed Imagineering headquarters.

WHY NOT add a little adventure for your family ?  A new experience ? A new culture ?  A new area of the World ?
WHY NOT take the thinking out of your vacation planning ?
WHY NOT have a guide with you, in helping your family experience their best vacation ever ?
WHY NOT know you’ll experience the same type of high quality that serves the Disney name ?

Understanding groups rates. How many cruisers to qualify ? Is there group space left in 2016 ? Group travelers raising your rate, as an individual cruiser ?

Times have changed.  Use to be … The more folks you invited to sail with you, the lower the cost, to include amenities for those who traveled in the group.  Then it changed to … A lower rate with amenities, as long as you had 8 cabins with 16 cruisers (with the same rate up to 100 -250 cabins).  Today … Not so true !

In general, you are still supposed to have planned for sailing, a minimum of 8 cabins of 16 travelers, to be considered a group to the cruise lines.  Meaning, you must begin in holding space, for at least this many travelers.  And, if this many travelers do not book, the rate “can be” raised by the cruise line and amenities taken away.  Not all these same rules stand true for folks who book with Cruises Inc (that’s a whole different article).

So are there lower rates for the group traveler ?
Here’s the “short explanation” of a few cruise lines, but info not in full …

Royal Caribbean – If holding space today, the rates are the same as those who are not booking into a group.  If book early enough, hopefully there will still be amenities for the group traveler.  However, once the group is cut off to book into, and there are not 8 cabins of 16 people booked, no one else can book into the group, to be given the amenities.

Norwegian – Again, If holding space today, the rates are the same as those who are not booking into a group.  As long as one cabin has booked into the group, the amenities are given to the last minute cabin who books, even if group rates are no longer available.

Carnival - Group rates may even be higher, due to Carnival’s Early Saver rates.  And 5 cabins of 10 people must “sail” to receive the chosen amenities.  Again, last minute cabins can book into group, for the amenities (as long as 5 cabins of 10 folks sail), at todays rates.

Holland America – May offer lower group rates.  However, a lower rate may be offered for the cruise, and then the cabin moved to the group for the amenities.  Again, as long as one cabin has booked, last minute bookers will receive the same amenities, at todays rates.

Princess – May offer lower rates due to complimentary upgrades for the group.  However, again, like HA, there may be a lower rate promotion, where the new cabin is then moved into the group, to receive the amenities.  Again, as long as one cabin has booked, amenities are available to the last minute booker, at today’s rates.

It’s complicated, YES !  Which is why you want to be sure you’ll allowing a  cruise specialist/travel agent, handle your group for you.  Someone with experience in groups … Someone who knows, every cruise line is different.  How will you know ?  That’s a good question !

So if there are no lower rates or there may be a lower offer than group rates, what value does holding group space have ?  LOTS !

Possible amenities is one advantage !  If you look at the cruise lines named above, several will continue to give the amenities, even if the traveler books last minute.  You can SEE WHY, Cruises Inc buys 1500+ sail dates … For providing amenities for our customers !

Another big advantage … Locking into a rate, while rates continue to climb !  Meaning, while your group travelers call to make a deposit, rates most often, continue to climb !  And if they have climbed, you have locked into a lower rate for your travelers to buy into !  Again, it’s WHY, Cruises Inc buys 1500+ sail dates … Save our customers money after rates have climbed !

The more important question … Will there be any group space when YOU CALL to reserve space ?
That’s not a black-white answer.

The cruise lines ONLY ALLOW a minute amount of space for group travelers.  This means, if you call too late, the group space is gone.  At that point, doesn’t matter if you sell 100 cabins, if there’s no group space … (1) There’s no amenities for your travelers … And (2) No rate can be locked into, while your travelers are getting their deposit together !

What is TOO LATE ?
Again, not a black-white answer.
Who can predict how early folks will book for "your sailing" ??

Early bird travelers KNOW to call & book their space early.  I’m talking “as early as” … Rates come out for your sailing.  Many cruise lines have space right now, for the 1st quarter of 2017 !  The longer you wait to book, even for this time frame, can be TOO LATE !

I have folks calling right now … Asking for October & December 2016 and the space is gone !
And even our 1500+ dates for 2016, many of the lower rates are gone … Though with select cruise lines, our amenities may still be there for you !

My suggestion … Groups need to book a year to 15 months out !  Are you past this date ?  Then hurry & call & see if there's available space NOW !

You’re right … Many of your followers may not be ready to commit this early !
They’ll either MISS THE BOAT or you’ll get lucky, to have several who will book, same time as you, in hopes of the cruise line giving you more time, for those folks not yet ready.

However, in reality, if your folks won’t book when you have space in hand, they may never book.  It’s best to find out early, whether you have any followers or not … Then to wait till 9 months or 6 months from sailing, after the rate has climbed or the space is gone.

Which will it be ?  Book early ?  Or call to find NO SPACE ?

You say, you’re only planning to take 2-3 other cabins with you and not 8 cabins ?
Remember … All these groups are booking … They are taking up the available space.  They are also causing rates to climb as they continue to book.

So even if you don’t need group space … Why allow those who are in a group, to get your space ? To raise your rates ?

And if you want balconies, suites, family suites, or taking kids … You need to book earlier.  These are the type of cabins that go first !  Especially if you need cabins to be together !

You may not think these needs are considered special … BUT THEY ARE !  I call these rules !  If your status is more than one-two cabins; you want to be together; or you need cabins that hold 3 or 4 people, you are NOT one of those folks who can wait till last minute !

So you waited later to book last time ?
That was last time !
Since November of 2014, folks are booking earlier than they have before !
WHY ?
LOOK AT ALL THE CRUISE LINE OFFERS !
Who wouldn’t jump onboard ??
Will you ?  Or will you be too late ?

Did you know ?
70% of cruisers book their next year’s cruise, prior to Christmas !
20% book Jan to mid-March.
10% book at the last minute.
Which are you ?
