FYI, Cruise ships don't tolerate fighting onboard. Happy wife. True story.

Client of mine had bought a cruise and was planning to sail alone, without her husband.  In past, she just cruised without him, since he never seemed too interested in going.  This time, she asked, one last time, and he decided he wanted to go.

As time got closer, she continued to be concerned that maybe she had done the wrong thing in asking him.  Her fear, of him drinking too much and making a scene, like he’s well known for, at home (some in public if with friends, but mostly in private).  The week before the cruise, she could feel him working towards a “bi-polar” attitude,  and figured, he just might back at the last minute !  Though it seemed that way, even up till the night prior, come morning to leave, he was ready.

Upon getting to the cruise, he was certainly curious of all that was going on, since this was his first cruise.  Lucky for her, he was more interested in what was going on, than drinking, or copping one of his normal attitude swings !

First night, they went out for drinks.  All seemed fine.  Then to dinner.  Met so many new folks.  Again, lucky for her, it was always more important “for him”, that he didn’t make a scene in front of those he didn't know, so he stayed on his good behavior.

Then the second night.  One couple was not at dinner.

Wow, another couple new the story of the couple who was missing from dinner.  On the first night, after dinner, this couple got in a big fight, yelling and screaming, after having several to drink.  Security had to come !  They were both “band” from drinking anything else onboard … For the next 9 days !  And if they drank while in port, and came back intoxicated or fighting, more extreme measures would take place.

Well, my client was extremely excited, that this had happened, because for her, this was like a warming, so her husband would know “how it would be” if he got out of hand.  And she believes this saved her from the normal agony she would have had to go through - He wouldn't want to be band from drinking nor want folks talking about him.  Only once, out of 10 days, did he throw a few words (outside on the deck - not in front of others), after having too much to drink !

Though it was not some romantic getaway, she had a great cruise !  Almost alcohol-fight-free, only because another couple at their table, had done this first, what she had feared from him !

You say, why is she with this guy anyway ?  Well, as soon as they got home from the cruise, his normal self sprang into place, that very night !  He got drunk and told her he no longer loved her.  So she left !

Though she hated to see the relationship end, after 5-6 years, she knew this guy would never change.  However, after 2 months of being away from him, she called him to talk.  He was as mean as normal.  When hanging up, she said, "It’s been a pleasant 2 months around nice folks, and very glad to be reminded, why I never want to be with him again" !

Though often cruises help bring couples closer together … In some instances, like in this one, a relationship that needed ending, finally did, without too much grief … Lucky for her !

FYI, I was on a cruise once, where family (sisters), was fighting (and their spouses got involved).  Security told them, they would go to the brig if it continued !  This was actually the first time I had experienced such type events.

Unbelievable such things happen in the first place .... Leave you baggage at home ... Cruising is a happy time !
